Street Style Spain - Madrid (Barrio de la Latina) Summer 2009

Spanish women always seem to put their best foot forward. As a little girl I remember my grandmother always stressing the importance of dressing up whenever we went into the city. They dress for themselves, but also to be seen, which is probably why they often look so good.

This two toned, tie dye dress is from Zara. The Aviators are Ray Ban.

The gladiator sandals are vintage and the gray handbag is from Pull & Bear.

This girl's floral print dress is from Spanish label Mango. The brown shoulder bag is from Blanco, a Spanish fashion store.

The braided sandals shown here are another alternative for the gladiator sandals, if you find them to be too much.

Here you see another dress from Zara with a flirty floral print. Her bracelets are from a variety of places such as flea markets or boutiques such as DurĂ¡n y Tous.

Boots - Street Style - How To Shop Vintage

Keeping with the theme of Winter boots, I have been browsing the web for interesting boot selections. I stumbled upon elle.com street style, and to my excitement I saw that they were featuring boots. The street style feature reinforces why I love NYC fashion so much. The distinct style and and fresh layered look that is seemingly effortlessly.

Below there are a select designer boots. Most of the population finds such styles to be out of their price range. However there is an alternative! You can find quality boots for the fraction of the price of Chanel or Fendi. Solution, pop into a vintage clothing store. For those of you who are wary about buying vintage, especially shoes, take a chance. I have had reservations in the past about buying vintage, but with a little practice and know how you can become quite adept. Who knows, you may even find a diamond in the rough. There are a few suggestions you should consider before making your purchase.

-Pay attention to details. Make sure the shoe is well made. Look at the instep, stitching, heel and sole.

-Look at the designer. Vintage allows you to buy designer brands at a fraction of the price. Yes designer duds tend to be extremely expensive, but the price tag is also relative to the quality of the product. Vintage allows you to get quality at a fraction of the price.

-Do not forget that about your shoe maker. Make sure you find one whom you trust and who charges reasonably. A good shoe maker can bring vintage shoes back to life.

-Look at the material. You shouldn't be buying pleather vintage shoes. Look for quality materials such as good leather or snake skin. Look for rich fabrics and unusual styles. The great thing about vintage is that it is virtually impossible to pass someone on the street wearing your same shoes, that will most likely happen if you buy your shoes at say Nine West.

-Always always clean your shoes after purchase. A little polish and shoe cleaner will go a long way.

-Since we saw snow early this year, do not forget to get your shoes treated for the weather. The last thing you want is to ruin a pair of pumps because of snow and salt.

Street Style NYC - Lucky Magazine

New York women seem to have an innate fashion sense that comes effortless. Take a look at some of the trends these girls sported throughout the city.

If you are wearing neutrals and want to liven up an outfit pair with a bright bag. Matching too many styles looks outdated. The bright teal bag above goes well with the tan boots. Accessories can change an outfit, such as the girl above rocking the gray hat and bolero jacket.

I love when women rock menswear. The red lips and tuxedo shirt make for an interesting dichotomy. The mix of black and white is classic and will always leave you looking chic.

Once again mix and match your fabrics and colors. The girl above covers her sparkly mini dress with a gold jacket. Even with all the sparkle she still does not look over the top, I would just suggest to keep this as an evening look. The second girl also mixes her fabrics pairing a leather biker jacket with a knit dress.

Layering has been big this season. Layer a button up shirt over a black long sleeve shirt. The paper bag waist allows you to easily tuck in your shirt. Keep in mind that this look is more flattering for women with smaller frames. Also layer a dress over a turtleneck to create a more casual look.

A crochet dress with cap sleeves paired with dark tights make for a casual look. On the other hand, the feminine fabric of the pink dress adds a touch of glamour.

Street Style During NYC Fashion Week

If you haven't noticed it is cold in NYC. Street fashion shows lots of layering and mixing of colors with the standard neutrals in any warbrode. Dark black leggins or pantyhose are also a staple. Afterall they keep you warm and go great with everything. One of the reasons I love New York fashion is because of the edge

These two oversize coats . You can pair an oversize jacket with a dress, skirt, or leggings. Since the coats themselves are heavy and do not accentuate a woman's figure they are best paired with something girlie such as a skirt, dress etc.

Black is always a fashion staple in New York City. New York women can make a black ensemble more interesting by adding a touch of color with your shoes or a bag. I always like to pair a red scarf or shoes with my neutrals like the woman on the left.
The assymetry of the jackets above make an otherwise neutral color more interesting. The I especially love the collar and ruffled front of the military style jacket to the right.

Again we see an oversize coat that does not emphasize a waist, worn with a dress. The dress and frill on the top offset the severity of the coat.
Leather, leather, leather. Leather jackets, leather pants, leather bags. You can wear a fitted leather jacket with skinny or straight leg pants in order to achieve the urban chic look above.

The white crochet dress is beautiful and feminine. The black knee high boots will not only keep her warm, but also do not look overdone. You should avoid a heeled boot when wearing a dress in order to look more casual and less provocative. The flat boots work well with the dress.
Again another military style jacket paired with what looks like a long button down shirt and black leggings.

If you are going to wear lots of different pieces such as a short skirt, ankle boots, and jacket it is best to keep them a neutral color in order to avoid seeming overly done. Although the woman on the left could have benefited from a little color.
On the right, this woman pairs a bright scarf to contrast her black dress. Her red shoes clash with the bright magenta scarf but I still think her outfit works. Matching excessively can be boring.
